Located above the transmission housing, it reads the crankshaft position sensor on the flywheel.

Common Fault Codes (DTCs)

  • P0335: Failure in the crankshaft position sensor circuit. Indicates a complete absence of signal.
  • P0336: Rotation signal out of range or with noise. Common when there are iron filings stuck to the magnetic tip of the sensor.

To test, use a multimeter on the resistance (Ohms) scale. Inductive sensors in the PSA line typically display values ​​between 350 to 550 Ohms. If the reading is infinite, the sensor’s internal coil has broken. It’s important to remember that the distance (air gap) between the sensor and the reciprocating wheel must be precise; a loose support will prevent starting.

3. Fuel Line: Pressure and Flow Rate

Often the electrical system is perfect, the rotation sensor sends the signal, the BSM activates the relay, but the fuel doesn’t reach the fuel rail with the necessary pressure. The Bosch or Magneti Marelli system in the C3 requires a constant pressure between 3.0 and 4.2 Bar to function correctly.

  1. Pressure Test: Install the pressure gauge on the Schrader valve of the fuel rail. When you turn on the ignition, the pressure should rise instantly. If it rises slowly and then drops immediately, suspect the pressure regulator or the pump’s check valve.
  2. Current Test: A worn-out pump consumes more than 7 Amperes. If the consumption is high, it will burn out the internal relay of the BSM soon.
  3. Access: Access to the fuel pump in the C3 is via the rear seat. Check the upper connector; it’s common to find melted pins due to overheating caused by poor contact.

Step-by-Step Diagnosis in the Workshop

Phase 1: Scanner and Battery

Connect the scanner and check the battery voltage. Below 10.5V during starting, the control unit (ECU) may lock the immobilizer communication. Check if the ECU is unlocked in the data stream. Phase 2: Spark Test

Phase 3: Pump Feeding

If there is a spark but the engine won’t start, apply some penetrating oil or starting fluid to the intake. If the engine threatens to start, you have confirmed that the problem is fuel-related. Check the wiring harness that runs along the side of the vehicle; it may be damaged or oxidized.
