  4. Turn on the ignition and see if the fault becomes “passive” on the scanner. If the fault disappears with the resistor, the problem is in the belt or the air bag (it’s very rare for it to be the air bag).
  5. To confirm the strap, test the continuity of only the removed part by rotating the mechanism to check if the resistance oscillates.

2. Checking the Connectors Under the Seat

  1. Access the underside of the front seats. You will see orange (airbag) and green/blue (pretensioners/sensors) connectors.
  2. Disconnect them, apply high-quality, quick-drying contact cleaner.
  3. Definitive Technical Solution: In many cases of chronic poor contact, the factory recommendation (technical bulletin) is to eliminate the connector and directly braze (solder) the wires with heat-shrink tubing insulation. This eliminates the resistance variation that generates error B0028/B0021.

For repairing the belt, there are two options: replacing the entire key module (COM2000/DELPHI) or just the internal flat cable.

  • Common OEM Code (C4): 96605656XT or 6242SQ (Depends on chassis and features such as cruise control).

  • Necessary Tools: OBD2 scanner, Torx T20 and T50 wrenches (for the steering wheel center bolt), thin screwdriver, soldering iron, and contact cleaner.
  • Assembly Torque: The center bolt of the steering wheel must be tightened with 30 Nm + medium chemical lock.

When should I take it to the dealership?

If, after replacing the seat belt and repairing the seat harnesses, the “ECU Configuration” error light persists, it will be necessary to use the Lexia/Diagbox For telecoding the SRS module. Independent workshops with advanced scanners can do it, but cases of EEPROM data corruption in the module after collisions or severe short circuits require sending the control unit to an airbag reset specialist or replacement at a dealership.
